KQED Education Network and the Emery Unified School District present an evening of film, conversation and education

A screening of Shellmound

There are plenty of brand names and bright lights to distract shoppers at the Bay Street shopping center in Emeryville.  Few people realize they are walking on an Ohlone burial ground thousands of years old, steeped in a century of toxic sludge.  Shellmound examines the decisions made during the toxic cleanup, the excavation and construction through the eyes of the city of Emeryville, and perspectives by the developer, archaeologists and the Ohlone who worked on the site.

Panel discussion to follow with

  • Andres Cediel, independent filmmaker
  • Chuck Striplin, Ohlone, San Francisco Estuary Institute
  • Ruth Mathis, Social Studies Department, Emery Secondary School
  • Corinna Gould, Ohlone, Indian People Organizing for Change
